Recession Proof

Looking for a Girls Guide to escaping a gutter economy?  Well, I have the perfect fix, and it won't cost you anything.  Friends.  They'll make a moment pass by in milliseconds in between stifled laughs, tears and stiff cocktails.  Although I am a “girls girl,” I'm sure the fellas can feel me on this.  No one makes life quite as lovely as those you spend it with.  Here's your Girls Guide...

Out with mi ladies: 1 I've known for years, the other 2, the last 15 minutes but its love, I can tell.  Wearing a whole bunch of nothing strategically placed on my body to look like something.  Enjoy!  xoxo

Oh, and before we depart I wanted to inform you guys that Bora Bora Style will be taking a minor hiatus to refresh and re-define the focus of this here blog.  The original intention of the blog has completely shifted as I've evolved and become more aware of what us women really desire.  I hope to build a forum that speaks for us, so pardon the mini sabbatical, but I'll be back re-imagined and better than ever!

Stay updated with BBS on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram at Bora Bora Style if you're looking for a real experience compliments of a real girl!

Night Life

Seeing how lately my current social life revolves around either bikram yoga, church or diligently scribbling out mini memoirs, I was in desperate need of a night out.  Luckily some friends of mine were celebrating their record labels 3 year anniversary with the quintessential parlay, equipped with live performances, artificial fog, crowd surfing, disco lights and dancing.

Because I knew I’d be getting my groove on I planned ahead, (or as premeditated as I’ll ever be when coordinating an outfit).  I wanted a no fuss look and this denim ensemble worked just fine.  Most of its vintage mixed with other random brands.

Music is such a liberating experience.  Wherever the djs parked, that’s usually where I’ll be.  So “please don’t stop the music!”

BabyDoll

Lace Slip Dress & Knit Sweater: Vintage/ Shoes: Bakers/ Quartz Earring: Webalina

I’m having a babydoll moment.  “Babydoll” as in the 1950’s satirical comedy about an old Mississippi cotton-gin owner who weds a rambunctious 19 year old virgin (named Babydoll), who up until their presumed consummation continues to sleep in an adult sized crib, suck her thumb and prance around in the most darling vintage nighties.  If you lost me after “Mississippi cotton-gin owner” I highly recommend seeing the movie; no explanation in the world could properly interpret the sweet amusement of this film!

Anywho, the nightgowns worn by the lead actress are bloody adorable – if you haven’t heard, I’m obsessed with frilly negligee and when it’s vintage, that obsession turns manic.  This vintage silk nightgown is one of my favorites!  It’s so precious that I almost refuse to actually wear it.  Literally, it’s seen the light of day like twice.  I feel so dainty in it.  I have a little of “Babydolls” character in me, and when I put on this dress, the “little” quickly emerges.  Isn’t it just grand how clothes can do that?  Bring out the “crazy, sexy, cool” in you.  Ignore my TLC moment, but you feel me.  I hope?

Have a lovely weekend!  xoxoxo

In the Details

There’s something about the way one adorns themselves that refuses to go unnoticed.  Without ever uttering a word the subject somehow belts out “look at me look at me!” and by default we do the unthinkable, we look – damn!  This was one of those moments.  The strategic placement of her raised cigarette.  The uncanny precision of her crimson lipstick, which is obviously smudge proof because I see no detection of it along the filter of her cigarella.  The slight flare of the brim of her hat and those sunglasses!  I didn’t only glance, I stared the poor girl down! Luckily my gawking was well received and I was granted access to snap some shots.

A new feature I’d like to introduce to the blog as I’ve come to notice, it’s all “in the details.”

Meow

Mesh Top: American Apparel/ Skirt: Vintage Adrienne Vittadini/ Shoes: Rampage/ Scarf: Mi Hermana

Very familiar looking skirt wouldn’t you say?  It’s the other half of the Vittadini back slit top I wore last week.  Twin sets aren’t exactly conducive to my wardrobe so I usually sport the two separately, plus something about all that violet in one look irks me.

I’ve been feeling rather sexy lately, and in the mood to exemplify such with my style.  This outlook seems to have come right on schedule as I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin and embraced my power.  Feels kind of good, especially in this skirt which so happens to be ridiculously comfortable!  All hail the jersey knit pencil.  Time to let the lioness out of her den, or more like “kitten-ness” but a mighty cat nonetheless!  Give me a couple more months for the lioness part.  Meow.

I’ve missed ya’ll, hope you have a great Monday! xox

La Flora Vittadini

Floral Top: Vintage Adrienne Vittadini/ Spiked Loafers: Gifted (mi hermana)

The 80’s were known for its broad shoulders and back slits, and this vintage floral print Vittadini blouse is no exception.  Why the closures were reversed back then, I have no idea?  But I find it a nice vacation from the usual flash of cleavage.  At least this way I don’t have to bother myself with a push up bra!

Hugs and Kisses!

Forbidden Fruit

Dress: Vintage/ Infinity Necklace: Gifted

I spend a lot of time in the car.  I mean more than the average person.  Seems like I’ve always got a point a, b, c and d to get to on any given day, and lately one would assume I was racking up the entire alphabet from the looks of my odometer!  On occasion the car serves as a resting place, reading nook, meditation space and on this given day, a lounge.  Now I’m not homeless, minus a bad case of wanderlust.  I’ve got the home base down, or as down as you can be under the roof of the parentals, (oh the woes of post graduate) but a home nonetheless.  When on the road, the car substitutes as an economy sized travel vessel.  If I have a minute, and on a day like today there were several, I grab some fresh produce and pop a squat on the rear hood.  It might actually beat the perks of a lounge because it’s all mine.  Now all I need is a cocktail.

Happy Monday <3  XoXoX

The Banana Dress

Reworked Dress, Sandals, Rhinestone Belt: Vintage

Easter may have passed but the pastel trend is alive and well!  Per my usual, I added a twist to the popular hue of the summer with this vintage re-worked dress.  Some bravado, if you will, to what could have been considered an aged 80’s dress.  Make no mistake, there’s very little “old” in this pleated, drop waist play thing. It’s so "new" its ions ahead, but not without help from your friendly neighborhood shears and sewing machine. It’s like silicone valley for the garment and it’s highly addictive! Long live the banana dress; I call it that because for some reason it reminds me of one?  Must be that darn pastel.

Check out more pics on the BBS FB page and Twitter.  Aaahhhh (calming exhale), it's Saturday ya'll, enjoy!  xoxox

The Prairie Girl

Shirt: Re-worked Vintage/ Shorts: Express/ Shoes: Rampage/ Earrings: Vintage/ Bucket Bag: Volcom

Don’t you just love a pretty, my little pony type horse, complete with cotton candy colored mane and glitter toenail polish?  Such an animal and I did not inhabitant the same space at the time of these photos, but because it’s my prairie I decided to play a little make believe.

As was announced I’m still going strong with my fashion strike, and much to my surprise the sun decided to cooperate today.  It poured its light and heat onto the city, and left every door ajar and every window cracked.  Hallelujah!  I thought I’d be forced to contrive a mob and issue a petition, but the sun loves me too much to let it have come to that!

I wore this super light weight vintage re-worked blouse.  What I adore most is the detail along the collar and cuff.  A little daintier than what I normal go for but somehow I couldn’t resist!  I thought since I was going Shirley Timple type cute, might as well add a bow to seal the deal.  Such a fun twist to the casual summer ensemble.  Hopefully I made both Shirley and the sun proud!

Hope you had a beautiful Fourth of July.  By the way I got the most incredible shot of the city’s fireworks show on the lake from my friends’ fantastic view.  Check it out on the Bora Bora Style FB page if you haven’t already, or Twitter if you're following me!  Xoxox

The White Abyss

Shirt: Sisters Closet/ Shorts: Vintage DIY/ Shoes: Rampage

Don’t be fooled, there is little heat emanating from that sky and I refuse to take part in its dress cold, (I meant to say cold, flow with me for a second)!  That’s right, I’m calling a strike.  “A DRESS DESPITE THE REST” strike, otherwise known as forget the sun – until it shows face – and in the meantime sport the shorts regardless!

This Monday the strike began.  I came, I conquered, I wore daisy dukes!  For those of you following BBS from other parts of the globe where sunshine quantities exceed the 2/7 ratio (2 days of sunshine out of the week), would you kindly share?  Is our angst not felt?  I mean, can we get some love over here?  I’d like to melt as well, and contrary to my own beliefs, perspirate excessively thanks to hefty amounts of sunshine.

Let the strike commence!  Be prepared to see me in shorts for the rest of the week despite what the sun decides to do with itself.
By the way happy 4th of July!  I love the 4th because you can always count on festive cupcakes.  Y'all come back now, ya hear!  Xox

Petting Zoo

Top: Random/ Faux Fur Coat: Vintage/ Jeans: Express/ Booties: Vintage

You’re welcome to gently pet the faux fur, but don’t feed it!  Another one of the many finds I banished to my wardrobe and is finally seeing the light of day.  As you know, Seattle is home to some unpredictable weather, so even in the midst of summer there will come a day when a faux fur coat is considered more than appropriate!
