Oh Karl

Oh golly gee, he’s done it again!  That darn Karl never ceases to amaze me.  The creative genius behind Chanel and Fendi has joined the designer/department store collaboration band wagon that all the major design houses have been jumping on recently, only to bring us – us as in penny pinching fashionistas like myself – a sleek 45 piece limited edition fall collection for good ol’ Macy’s.  Karl Lagerfeld was one of the first top designers to join forces with a major department store back in 2004 for H&M, in an effort to deliver a more affordable collection.

I’m loving the designer/department store collaborations that are all the rave right now, but I know how the business works and am aware that this economy is no longer sourcing the high end designers like it once did.  Haute Couture can only get you so far in this day and age, so the major designers and labels are having to bring there work down to a more reasonable level of obtainability before they go out of business or before they loose a lot of money that they really don’t want to loose.  Now I’m not too sure how ecstatic designers are with such a compromise, but they’re putting on a happy face and I ain’t mad at it.  Now, as we move forth in this age of fashion, I hope to see more major collaborations such as this but done so not out of necessity on the part of the designers, but in order to make high fashion available to the masses who love it – at least until I can afford it.

Lagerfeld will be collaborating with Macy’s “Impulse” department to deliver his 45 piece collection, which is very reminiscent of classic Lagerfeld style as opposed to Chanel.  Crisp white button down shirts, faux leather pants, fitted blazers, you know, the infamous Lagerfeld look, but even better: it’s in womenswear with prices ranging from $50-$170.  The fall collection will be available online and at select Macy’s stores come Aug. 31st.  GO get your Lagerfeld on!  View the complete collection HERE.
