To Know Him is to Love Him

Happy Monday lovelies!  It’s officially that time of the year, where it feels as if time has stalled in our favor as we enjoy extended hours in the evening sun, mid day bbq’s, barefoot walks along the beach and parks and other forms of summer lounging.  Seattle’s Botanical Gardens and Arboretum is just the place for summer chilling.  Carmen Daneshmandi (friend and amazing photographer), and I recently visited the gardens at the first sight of sun – us Seattleites have to take it where and when we get it. 

I took advantage of the warm weather by rocking the Ankara dress I created while in Nigeria.  I had a specific type of look I was going for; I knew I wanted a nice day dress that utilized various types of Ankara fabrics.  The dress came out just as I had hoped.  The seamstress did an incredible job and was able to bring my sketches and pictures to life.  I can’t wait to go back and have some more pieces made, I know exactly what to design next!

If you’re really feeling the modernized Ankara look, check out some designers in the states who specialize in designs using that specific fabric.  One of my favorites is Boxing Kitten.  Sought after by both Solange and Beyonce Knowles, the designer of Boxing Kitten focuses on re-capturing the summer swag of the late 1950’s using original Ankara fabric.  Each piece looks as if it’s a collector’s item, and are so lively for summer.
