Rene Ropas: REVIVE

Last week I attended the wittingly themed fashion show of Rene Ropas avant garde and spring/summer ready to wear (RTW) 2011 collection.  The shows title – Revive: A Black and White Masquerade and Journey into Alice’s Wonderland – was more than fitting for the dainty, yet daring collection.  Morgan Carson, founder and designer of Rene Ropas, pulled inspiration for the collection from the loss of her best friend to leukemia.  Carson explains that she was looking to revive her life and her line, Rene Ropas, in order to regain the freedom she loss at the time of her companions passing.

That freedom was unapologetically reborn in Carson’s recent collection.  Dedicated to her dear friend and to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Carson’s collection raised all hell with its whimsical, vintage Betsey Johnson-esque essence, and its ultra feminine and flirty spring and summer favorites.

Titled Insight, the RTW collection evolves 50’s cuts and shapes, into modern one-of-a-kinds.  Soft pastels like powder blue and rosy pink float through the RTW collection, in addition to supple linens and lace. The collection was ablaze with charming rompers, sheer coveralls, highwaisted shorts in creative fabrics and flowing summer dresses.  I adored the striped linen pant with the 1950’s highwaisted cut, and the floral print bustier – such a fresh look for spring.

Carson also shared a short fashion film for the Rene Ropas RTW collection, shot in Honolulu Hawaii by talented cinematographer Brett Renville.  The film is phenomenal: its tact and quality highlight the grace of the clothes beautifully. To view the video click HERE.

WANT those striped linen pants!!

The avant garde collection, on the other hand, took the femininity of the RTW line and upped the ante with its incredible edge in fabrics and print play.

Carson’s avant garde feature of the show took the basic catwalk theme out of the equation and replaced it with a theatrical twist.  My take on it was that Alice may have been lost in wonderland, or late for the mad hatters tea party, whichever it was the show was very energetic and entertaining.  The clothes took on a life of their own as they sasched around the runway, so much so that any of the pieces from the avant garde collection could easily be RTW for the women willing enough to make a fashionable statement in a bold way!
